Enhancing Power Quality Through Innovation to protect your business
Sizing Guidelines - Select the Power Conditioner that best suits your application.
Follow these simple guidelines to size your power conditioner
determine the pieces of equipment you wish to protect: give top priority to protecting equipment that are the most sensitive to electrical disturbances and/or create the most harm to your operation if they get damaged by a surge
determine the power consumption (watts or VA) of all equipment to be protected: add up the watts (W) displayed on the nameplate of each piece of equipment. If no wattage is indicated, multiply "120V." by the amps/current (A) to get the consumption (VA)
add the power consumption of any equipment you intend to add in the near future
total all power consumptions (either watts or VA), add 10% extra. This is your total load.
select the power conditioner whose rated capacity is just above your total load
Selection examples
1.- Protection of a PBX phone system:
name plate reads 120V., 3A
no additional load or anticipated expansion in the near future
Calculation:
120 x 3A = 360VA or watts
Total load: 360 + 10% margin= 396watts
Select PC550 (PC360 is too small, PC550 is the next available size)
2- Protection of a video conference system:
TV monitor nameplate reads 400 watts
VCR nameplate reads 120V, 1A
other equipment reads 120V, 3A
no future expansion
Calculation:
TV consumption= 400 watts
VCR consumption= 120 x 1A= 120VA or watts
other equipment consumption= 120 x 3A= 360VA or watts
Select PC1000 (PC750 is too small, PC1000 is the next available size)
