Pentadyne flywheel energy storage systems store kinetic energy in the rotor of a motor/generator by constantly spinning it. When short-term back-up power is required (i.e. when utility power fluctuates or is lost), the rotor's inertia allows it to continue spinning and the resulting kinetic energy is converted back to electricity. When connected to the DC bus of a static UPS, the flywheel allows to provide ride-through power to critical loads during electrical disturbances like sags, brownouts, momentary interruptions and short power outages.
The Pentadyne Voltage Support Solution (VSS) is an advanced flywheel power system that provides clean energy storage and reliable, extended-life DC voltage for critical power applications.
As a cost-effective replacement for a bank of lead-acid batteries in UPS systems, the VSS provides ride-through for short duration power disturbances or until a back-up generator can come on line.
